North Norfolk is one the happiest places to live in the country

People living in the North Norfolk village of Burnham Market are among the happiest people in the UK.

A recent survey by online furniture business Furniturebox also listed the village as the happiest place to live in Norfolk.

Dubbed “Chelsea-on-Sea” because of its high-value homes – nearly half are believed to be worth over £1 million – Burnham Market is known for its exquisite architecture, much of which is Georgian.

Close to the mouth of the River Burn, from which it is likely to have taken its name, it is one of the Burnham villages.

These also include Burnham Thorpe, Burnham Overy Town, Burnham Overy Staithe, Burnham Norton and Burnham Deepdale.

Set around a central green, Burnham Market is known for its array of local independent shops, boutiques and galleries.

It has a selection of holiday homes and is known for its annual events, including the Burnhams Flower Show and Carnival, the Burnham Market Craft Fair and the Christmas Lights Switch-On

Stratford-upon-Avon, the medieval town that was the birthplace of William Shakespeare, topped the survey list as the happiest place to live in the UK.

Second place went to Harrogate, a spa town known for its historic buildings, gardens, natural springs and food.

Both these places are also known for their impressive architecture.
